Talking Disciplinary Backgrounds in Art Museum?

I am undertaking an undergraduate research project about the recognition of women artists in the art museum. Has there ever been a survey of disciplinary backgrounds in relation to art museum professionals? I want to compare disciplines to discover if early disciplinary backgrounds affect the development of programs or is there some other politics involved in programing.
I am asking if such a survey or research has been conducted, so far my searches have not been successful.
Thank you.

There was a web lecture on this topic. I can not remember where it originated. Check out the University of Delware Musuem Studies program, the director may know something.
