Position Description/Responsiblities:
Vacancy: Executive Director

The South African Jewish Museum is a leading, modern and vibrant organisation aimed at educating and informing visitors with an understanding of Jewish history and modern day life in a transforming South African and African context.

The Executive Director reports directly to the Museum Board of Directors and is responsible for fulfilling the Museum’s vision, mission and objectives. Providing inspirational leadership and creativity, s/he will plan, grow and manage the SAJM. Serving as the primary liaison person, the incumbent is required to promote a positive image of the Museum in all interactions and activities. Working closely with the Board, s/he will develop, implement and measure strategic goals as well as manage the day to day operations.

The applicant should have a proven track record in the following key areas of responsibility:

Operations Management; Museology; Planning and implementing thematic programmes, exhibitions and events; Education and Outreach; Financial management and fundraising; Leadership and Staff Management; Marketing and Public Relations; Facility and Grounds Management.

The applicant should hold a recognised and relevant tertiary qualification. The applicant should also have:

• Excellent communication skills, public speaking and written skills
• Computer literacy and use of social media and communication mechanisms
• An understanding of South African Jewish history and its contribution
• High attention to detail

The salary package offered will be market related and negotiable (dependent on the suitable applicant’s expertise, experience and qualifications).
