Position Description/Responsiblities:
The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco is seeking an Associate Curator, Art of the Americas. Under the supervision of the Curator in Charge of AOA, the Associate Curator provides support for the development, management, and day-to-day operations of the Ancient American and Native American art collections.

Desired Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications

Education and Training:
A Masters Degree in Art History with specialization in the field assigned; Ph.D. highly desirable. Fluency in Spanish.

Work Experience:
Requires at least three years of curatorial experience in the field assigned.

Skills and Abilities:
-Knowledge of the methods, techniques and procedures involved in the maintenance and care of a museum collection of fine arts. Interest in expanding existing knowledge.

-Knowledge of art history; the national and international community of art scholars; and the art market. Interest in expanding existing knowledge.

-Ability to effectively teach about the arts of the Americas and inspire viewers through public lectures, gallery presentations, video presentations and print media

-Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the general public and outside organizations.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills

-Familiarity and proficiency with museum collections management software

-Adherence to deadlines

-Flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities

-Strong interpersonal and organization skills

-Desire to function in a team-oriented environment

-Ability to achieve and sustain best curatorial practices and ethical standards of the field

-Sensitivity and awareness of cultural property Issues
