Job Category: Education Employer Name: Directors Guild of America Salary Range: $28,000 to $32,000/year depending on experience, plus overtime (as needed) City, State, Country: Los Angeles, CA, USA Contact Website: www.dga.org Deadline to Apply: Start date: Monday, February 23, 2009 Position Description/Responsiblities: Position: The DGA Special Projects Department seeks candidates who are tech-savvy, detail-oriented and have good interpersonal skills to fill the position of Visual History Coordinator and provide support for the department’s other educational and cultural programs including seminars, symposia, screenings, and tributes. This is an opportunity for a well-qualified individual with interest and experience in the Moving Image Archive field to grow professionally and participate in the development of an important resource on the art and craft of the moving image. Description of Organization, Department, and Visual History Program: The Directors Guild of America represents and protects the economic interests and creative rights of film and television directors and their production teams. As the educational and cultural division of the DGA, Special Projects provides educational forums and opportunities for creative exchange for Guild members. Special Projects oversees the Visual History Program, regarded by members as an important legacy to future generations of filmmakers and cinema lovers. The Visual History Program documents and preserves the career contributions of directors and their teams through videotaped peer-to-peer interviews in order to to provide a growing database of information on the shared artistic and professional concerns of these complex, demanding vocations. Overall Responsibilities: Reporting to the Special Projects Executive, coordinate Visual History Program in all phases – prep, production and post-production – including production of interviews; periodic technology upgrades; updating of guidelines and protocols for logging and indexing; tracking expenditures and assisting in preparation of annual budget; maintaining administrative database and files; coordinating hiring and training of cataloguer/preservationists and oversight of preservation and storage of original tape masters. Primary duties include: Production: Research; reserve venue and camera operator; procure and maintain equipment and supplies; oversee videotaping sessions; support New York DGA interview production activities. Post-production: Supervise two part-time cataloguers in digitizing original master tapes, logging and indexing interviews; review and edit annotated logs for public use; select and edit interview clips for streaming online; edit biographies, interview summaries and clip descriptions; select and prep photos for online Photo Gallery; upload and publish interview materials to DGA website; supervise production and dissemination of DVD reference copies of interviews and other Special Projects audiovisual materials. Administrative Duties: Coordinate interviewing, hiring and training of department Workstudy interns; coordinate bi-monthly Special Projects Committee meetings; draft meeting minutes; oversee Special Projects Media Library; order equipment and supplies. Duties shared with other department staff, as needed: File management; event staffing and videotaping; monitoring phones and rsvp lines. Desired Qualifications: Required: Competence in MS Word, Access, Excel and other spreadsheet applications Knowledge of the fundamentals of media preservation and conservation, asset management, cataloguing practices and web publishing techniques Experience utilizing Apple Final Cut Pro non-linear editing system Basic videography skills Preferred: Knowledge of and interest in the history and craft of cinema and television production Knowledge of oral history interviewing standards and techniques Strong writing and editorial skills Salary: $28,000 to $32,000/year depending on experience, plus overtime (as needed); employer-paid health insurance, vacation, sick leave, pension and 401K retirement plan.
