The Museum Science Program and this position is based at the Museum of Texas Tech University. The Museum seeks a dynamic and creative individual with an established national reputation in the museum field to teach in the graduate degree program, Master of Arts in Museum Science. Teaching load is two graduate courses per academic semester. Fall semester courses specifically are in the areas of administration and museology; for Spring semester, development and teaching of new courses in Museum Science or in Heritage Management is expected. The faculty member’s research specialty is open but such areas as museum administration and philosophy, ethics, material culture, and natural or intangible heritage are preferred. Responsibilities include: teaching; course development; assisting in program development and growth; assisting in student recruitment; conducting research in museum science or heritage management related issues; and interacting with public, scholarly, and professional groups as an advocate for museum science and the museum profession, and to promote the program. Applicants should be self-motivated, willing to work flexible hours, have strong teaching, research, communication, planning, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Applicants must be skilled in translating their training and experience to museum settings and the museum profession and be able to teach, mentor, inspire, and involve graduate students through courses, research, and outreach activities. Applicants must be willing to work cooperatively and participate fully in a dynamic museum environment with an established academic and professional staff. The successful candidate will have a preferred Ph.D. in an academic area relevant to museum science and the Museum, with three to five years experience in museum administration, knowledge of museum philosophy and practice, and a record of participation in museum professional activities.
