The science educator’s primary responsibilities will be teaching science programs for schools and other groups including a new grant funded program, program administration, and conducting background research about a range of science topics (e.g. matter, energy, nanoscale). Occasional evening and weekend work, and some travel might be required. Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated 1 year science teaching experience required. Master’s degree and professional experience as an informal science educator are preferred. The museum educator and director of education review the science educator’s work for conformance to instructions and standards. Review begins 02/13/2012. The duties of the science educator are to deliver science education programs to schools (grades 1 to high school) and other groups (e.g. youth, adults), provide administrative support for programs, and research science content for educational materials. This will include: • Teach science education programs for school and public groups (40) • Research content in support of educational material development (25) • Program administration (25) • Other duties as assigned (10) Desired Qualifications: Required qualifications • Bachelor’s degree or higher in science or related field • Demonstrated minimum of 1 year teaching experience in a science education setting • Demonstrated knowledge of informal science education professional principles and practices • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to work independently • Competence using information technology for both research and teaching purposes Preferred qualifications • Masters degree or higher in science or a related field • Background in more than one area of science • Professional level experience as an informal science educator at a natural history museum, science museum, science center or equivalent • Experience working with diverse groups (e.g. schools, families, cross-cultural) Review begins 02/13/2012.
