Default Twittering away

Just wondering if anybody here has set up a twitter account for their museum- Twitter, in case you're wondering, is this 'micro-blog' system (all posts are 140 characters or less, the standard length of a txt message) that can be accessed online or via your mobile phone. I've been keeping a personal twitter account, and am finding an increasing number of unexpected twitter accounts which I've followed- I followed Barack Obama, Elizabeth May (both have become rather quiet since the American and Canadian federal elections), and am starting to watch an increasing amount of twitter accounts kept by museums and museum people (IIRC, moreso galleries than museums, and several museum twitter accounts I follow are French language as those institutions are located in France).

If your museum is using twitter, what are you using it for? Does your museum's twitter have a lot of followers? Or does it just seem unnecessary to you?
