I just applied for an archivist position. My degrees are in history, but I have a museum studies background. What are some ways that I can make myself more marketable? I can do labeling which is the primary function for the position I applied for, but what else would I need to know for the position?

There are many things that you can do to make yourself more marketable for Archival positions. You may want to check out AASLH's Basics of Archives online workshop http://www.aaslh.org/basicsofarchives.htm. This is a good basic introduction to archives, plus it is inexpensive and is done all online. You may also want to look into becoming a certified archivist http://www.certifiedarchivists.org/html/cert.html. Finally, read up on the profession. There are plenty of publications out there that will help you out.
Good luck! |

Good suggestions. I also recommend checking out the Society of American Archivists website, www.archivists.org. They have a lot of good online resources that may help you. Best wishes!
