So I am a prospective student and I know that I am interested in working with objects, I am not sure if I want to do curatorial or restoration or what exactly, but my question is more about whether I should choose museum studies and history or museum studies and art history.
I am most interested in working with archeological artifacts and ancient art and texts (particularly ancient religious art and sacred objects from the middle east and india) Unfortunately there is no museum studies and archeology concentration in this particular program. I know there is no guarantee but which concentration would most likely steer me towards a job working in an archeological museum? Thanks! |

Try looking for programs which focus on museum anthropology, this is probably your best bet. Arizona State Museum has this type of program. Check out their website: Museum Studies | School of Art | ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts
Good luck, and whatever you find out during your research, be sure to post it here to help others who may have similar questions! |

Thanks Museumgirl, the program looks great, but unfortunately, I am married and relocation really is not an option as my husband is quite happy with his current job. So I am limited to the colleges that are around me, and Im dealing with very few choices.
Thanks for your suggestion though. |

Well, the East Coast is pretty big, but you might want to look into the following programs:
Columbia University M.A. in Museum Anthropology: M.A. in Museum Anthropology NYU M.A. in Museum Studies: NYU | Museum Studies | Welcome Message Seton Hall University M.A. in Museum Studies: http://www.shu.edu/academics/artsci/...m-professions/ Bard College Center for Curatorial Studies: CCS Bard |

You could also try for a school with a museum nearby with the sort of collection you'd like to work with and volunteer, or once you've started school, see if they have an internship. Or even better, fund your own internship w/ a grant! Most museums won't turn down free help. It may take a little while to get where you want to go, but you'll be exposed to all kinds of opportunities along the way.
