- I am a public historian in the New York City area. I have a Ph.D. in United States history from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2000) specializing in immigration and social welfare policy and public history. Recent projects include conducting oral histories with Puerto Ricans in New Jersey about their relationships with the Catholic Church; researching and writing the script for a museum exhibit about German immigrants in Hoboken, NJ, during World War I, and researching the history of an antebellum African American cemetery. I am also the author of Americanization in the States: Immigrant Social Welfare Policy, Citizenship, and National Identity in the United States, 1908-1929 (University of Florida Press, 2009) as well as a number of articles about immigration history.
