Thumbs up Grad School Comparison Spreadsheet

First off, BIG thanks to Meredith D for providing Museum-L and MuseumProfessionals.org with what she is using to help her decide on a grad school. Hopefully she'll begin posting on here as well

Obviously, this is her personal research, but it's an awesome format/idea for any of you that are considering that next step to meeting your educational goals!

Here's what she wrote when she sent the spreadsheet over:

Quote:
Hello All,

I do want to let you know that the 'Notes' column was for my benefit, to remind me what I did or didn't like about a program. The tuition and fees are approximate and should not, by any means, be used for concrete financial planning. Again, it was just to give me an idea of the costs. As for the requirements column, I listed the requirements to apply, // and then the credit requirements to graduate. The websites are listed on the right hand side in case you need more information on a particular college.

I have listed both Historic Preservation degrees and Museum Studies degrees as I am interested both.

When I tried to research the Canadian universities, I had some trouble and wasn't as thorough as I could have been. I also haven't had a chance to research universities in the UK either.

If there's anything I missed or if you have information to add, please let me know.

Default School Research

What a great resource! I wish I had been as diligent when researching programs, though I am very happy with where I am (Seton Hall) and really feel like I've gotten a quality, practical education.

Best of luck in selecting a program!

Nice spreadsheet! I was curious as to why there were no New York schools. I'm looking at Museum Studies programs and had found a few in New York, but did not see any on the spreadsheet (and yes, I know through research that living in New York is expensive).

Impressive list but you forgot Cooperstown in New York. I have heard great things about it from those who have attended there. Definitely worth looking into.

Do you know anything about the program in Cooperstown besides what can be found on their website? I ran across it the other day and found it quite interesting.

Muchie: You're right, there aren't any schools from New York. Mostly because of personal preference. I have to ambitions to live in or around New York City and, therefore, didn't list any of the schools they have. And they do have several that have museum related degrees. If you know of any, you're always welcome to add to the list for future seekers.

Emily: I didn't know about Cooperstown, but I'm going to check it out.

Thanks!

The only school that I know of is the one in Cooperstown. I just recently started my search for graduate schools with a program in Museum Studies, so I did not know if Cooperstown was the only NY school with that program or not. I know that living in the city is expensive, so I guess that's why I was wondering if there were any smaller colleges, or branches similar to the Cooperstown one that might alleviate some of that financial burden because they aren't in the city.
