Museums, forts and historic homes filled my head with wonder and awe. I often contemplated who the lucky individuals were that had the opportunity to work in such an amazing environment. It has become my goal in life to be a part museums. Due to my experience and fascination with museum collections, I wish to be employed as an Assistant Registar. I truly want to be involved in inspiring current young viewers, as I was, of the incredible places museums are. Education: Master of Arts in Liberal Studies focused in History, 2011 from Valparaiso University Bachelor of Science major History minor Anthropology, 2009 from Ball State University Professional Experience: Intern, the National Hellenic Museum (just began) Intern, the Brauer Museum of Art since 2009 to the present -During my internship at the Brauer Museum of Art, I curated an exhibition in the Beverly Shores area for the artist Leon Bishop, engaged in the creation of a Hazel Hannel exhibit for the residents of the Pines Village Retirement Community and collaborated with the Brauer’s registrar in the transportation of several loans and the maintenance of the accession file. Gallery Attendent, the Brauer Museum of Art since 2009 to 2011 -My main responsibility is to provide a warm environment for the museum’s patrons. Other tasks include: monitoring the status of the art work, answering inquiries regarding the various aspects of the collection and guiding visitors through the gallery space. Genealogist, Porter County Public Library from Sept. 2009 to Dec. 2009 -As a genealogist, I investigated the varied family histories of patrons, generated an Excel file of past court records to be utilized as a database for interested researchers and explored the overarching history of Valparaiso and the surrounding areas. Teaching Fellow, Ball State University from Aug. 2008 to Dec. 2008 -In my role as a Teaching Fellow, I aided in the education of collegian students participating in a university level history course, led additional discussions and study sessions to facilitate learning and was responsible for the grading of assignments and paper work related to the course. Applicable Skills: Critical thinking, cataloging, MS Office, FileMakerPro, research, customer relations, registrarial duties and collections. Other: National Society of Collegiate Scholars, History Club, Anthropology Club, participated in a Study Tour of Greece and have been a volunteer in the Youth Services Department of Porter County Public Library for the last eight years. |
