Position Description/Responsiblities:
Museum of the City of New York seeks an energetic and experienced Director of Merchandising and Sales to oversee its Museum Shop. The position will manage all aspects of the shop and create a vibrant and profitable new direction for the Shop, including developing a new merchandising mix that utilizes the Museum’s collections, particularly in the area of photography, for a variety of new products. Remodeling inventory, increasing sales, and cost control are important goals. In addition, product licensing will be a key responsibility. This position will manage a small staff, and must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Responsibilities include: recruit, train and develop staff; direct and motivate store staff to ensure excellent service as well as the effective and profitable operation of the store; communicate the vision, business strategy, and brand to store staff; determine and implement visual elements; identify business opportunities, resolve issues and execute business strategy and other related duties. Successful candidates will have 5-10 years of retail management experience. Must have strong organizational skills and a proven ability to handle a diverse workload and multiple priorities as well as proven success in managing and achieving superior retail/merchandising results. Must be willing and able to work with various departments throughout the Museum with tact and diplomacy. Strong Merchandise/Visual Presentation skills are essential. Must have the ability to provide high level of customer service to all levels of internal and external customers. Will be required to work some weekends and holidays. A Bachelor's degree is required. Must be proficient with MS Office programs and have experience with POS and Inventory Management Systems. Competitive base salary, with the possibility of a bonus based on store sales.
