Hi, my name is Melissa. I am college student at Berea College, but I am spending my summer doing an internship with the University of Kentucky Art Museum. Their permenant collection contains a beautiful unknown Spanish, formerly attributed to Ribalta, In the Pasture by Julie Dupre`, a beautiful portrait for George Washington by Gilbert Stuart, the list goes on and on. The exhibit which is showing downstairs is the print show From Picasso to Warhol: Modern and Contemporary Prints from the Collection. It is showing until August 24, 208. Upstairs is Andy Warhol: Fame and Photography which is up until the same date. This show is a result of a generous gift of many poloroids taken by Warhol both for fun and as preliminary work for his screenprints.
In September the exhibition will be a beautiful show called Master Works by Kentucky Painters 1819-1935. It is being guest curated by Estill Curtis Pennington, an art historian best known for his work on Southern art. In March of 2009 Excavating Egypt: Great Discoveries from the Petrie Museum will be visiting us from London. If you are ever in the Lexington area you must come and see the museum. It is inside the Singletary Center for the Arts on campus. Tell them Melissa sent you! http://www.uky.edu/ArtMuseum/ |
